Parent Interview: The purpose of this session is to form a basis of mutual understanding and discover what brings you to us. We hope to gain as much information about your child as possible. Prior to coming, parents are requested to fill out our questionnaire to provide us with additional background information.
Child Interview: This is the session in which we experience the child. We do not impose any expectations, and as soon as children and adolescents realize this, they usually relax. By allowing children to be themselves, we get a glimpse of their view of the world and their approaches to discovering it. In this way, we experience their giftedness. They frequently talk openly about their interests and experiences, their hopes, their disappointments, and their problems. In addition to talking with them, we play games with them which require strategies or problem solving abilities or let them express themselves with legos, art materials, or storytelling. We encourage them to bring something of interest from home. Because we approach the child without preconceived notions, they often allow us access, and we are able to tap a deeper source of information. However, we respect their privacy and we do not probe intrusively.
Final Discussion: Based on our findings, we will, together with the parents, build a bridge between the Self of the child and the environment.
